The largest city in southern Utah, St. George is one
of the most popular resort and retirement communities in the Southwest.
St. George is located in the scenic desert of Southwestern Utah and
surrounded by some of this country's most beautiful and breathtaking
views. Visitors to the area can find everything from snow capped mountain
forests to vast canyons that will fill them with awe and wonder. National
Parks such as Bryce, Zion, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon are all
within driving distance of St. George. Famous for its mild winters and
gorgeous red rock scenery, St. George Utah is a snowbird mecca at 2,880
feet. Eleven golf courses, the 30-mile walking/biking trails /paths are
paved through the city offering visitors and citizens alike a chance to
enjoy the beauty and charm of this desert community and municipal swimming
complex offer year-round recreation.
St. George Utah has truly become a center for
entertainment. There are a myriad of things to do in St. George.
The Tuacahn Center for the Arts near Snow Canyon State Park is a 25
million dollar facility and home to famous outdoor musical dramas and
concerts. The Zion Canyon Cinemax Theater (IMAX Film) near Zion National
Park offers two films; one film highlights the story of Zion National Park
and surrounding region. A very substantial schedule of concerts, plays,
art-shows and more are offered through the city, Dixie College and private
groups. There are also several museums and historic landmarks throughout
the city of St George.
St. George is all about the great outdoors. St.
George's climate is an attraction in its own right. It has become a green
oasis in the desert, and the combination of the warm, dry winter climate
and natural beauty of the setting draws both new residents and tourists to
the area. There are over 300 days of sunshine per year, with average
summer temperatures around 100 and average winter temperatures at 55
degrees.
Residents love the camaraderie that comes with St. George's
fitness culture. The city hosts the St. George Marathon, one of
the country's largest and the Huntsman World Senior Games, which draw
almost 8,000 50-plus competitors from all over the United States.
There are a handful of cities that make up the approximately
135,000 people that live in Washington County, with St. George
being the largest. The population of St George is just under 60,000. To
the west of St. George is the city of Santa Clara. Santa Clara Utah is
known for being one of the first areas settled in the Washington County.
Adjoining Santa Clara is the city of Ivins. Ivins Utah is home to Tuacahn
Amphitheatre and Performing Arts Charter School, Red Mountain Spa, and
Snow Canyon State Park all of which draw many people to the area. Ivins is
also known for its breathtaking beauty, located at the base of Red
Mountain and views of amazing natural plateaus. To the north of St. George
you will find new developments and communities that have been planned to
bring you the best there is to offer in homes, natural views, walking
trails and golf. To the northeast of St. George is the city of Washington,
and is known to have one of the finest golf courses in the nation.
Washington Utah has a tremendous recreation program for the youth
including soccer, football, and baseball. Washington also has a swimming
pool, tennis courts and racket ball courts. Many citizens enjoy walking
along our streets and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Approx 20 miles to
the east of St George is the crossroads to Zion National Park, Lake Powell
and the Grand Canyon, Hurricane, Utah. This picturesque town sits at the
foot of the world famous Hurricane Ridge which delineates the western edge
of the Colorado Plateau. Known for its beautiful fruit orchards and farms,
Hurricane has a rich heritage and profound community pride. Many other
cities make up the Washington County area, Laverkin, Touquerville,
Springdale, Rockville, Silver Reef, Virgin, Dammeron Valley, Veyo and
Central.
